Introduction
This document outlines the comprehensive assessment framework adopted to evaluate teaching and learning effectiveness across different classes and academic programs. The policy ensures consistency, transparency, and alignment with curricular standards, fostering student development and academic excellence.
1. Continuous Assessment
Objective:
To monitor ongoing student progress and provide formative feedback to enhance learning.
Scope & Components:
- Classes I – VIII:
- Class Work & Daily Activities: Regular classroom assessments, including quizzes and homework.
- Common Assessment Tasks (CATs): Two assessments per term designed to evaluate understanding of key concepts.
- Project Work / Oral Work / Mental Maths: Formative tasks aimed at skill development and application.
- O & A Level Programs:
- Class Assignments & Quizzes: Regular tasks aligned with syllabus coverage.
- Mid Term Assessments: To evaluate syllabus coverage after the initial phase, weighted at approximately 30%.
- Class Tests / Quizzes: Conducted periodically (e.g., monthly), results uploaded to LMS, weighted at around 20%.
Implementation Guidelines:
- Continuous assessments should be conducted regularly, and results documented accurately.
- Teachers are responsible for providing timely feedback to support student improvement.
- All assessments contribute to the final grade, with specific weightages assigned per component.
2. Summative Examinations
Objective:
To evaluate cumulative student achievement at designated intervals, aligning with curriculum standards.
Class-wise Examination Schedule & Details:
| Classes | Examination Type | Timing | Nature & Scope | Additional Notes |
| I – IV | No formal exams | N/A | N/A | Focus on formative & summative assessments only. |
| V – VI | End of Year Exams | Annually | Centralized, covering entire syllabus of the second term | No Mid-Year exams. |
| VII – VIII | Mid-Year & End-Year Exams | Mid & End of Year | Mid-year: School-based; End-of-year: Centralized | Approximately 7 exam series per student (Classes V–VI). Approximately 8 exam series per student (Classes VII–VIII). |
Matriculation & Cambridge Programs:
- Matriculation:
- Mid-Year & Sessional /Prelims: School-based, assessing the allocated syllabus for that time(semester/term/session/unit).
- Prelims: Conducted 3 months prior to BISE exams, with marks contributing to final grades.
- End of Year: BISE-external exams, regional in nature, covering full syllabus.
- O & A Levels:
- Mid-Year & Mock Exams: Conducted as per the academic calendar, covering syllabus of the respective terms.
- Final Examinations: End of year or pre-examination assessments, centrally administered, covering the entire syllabus.
Assessment Weightage & Reporting:
- Marks from assessments and exams are compiled in result card on MATRIX
- Reports are issued twice per year, summarizing student performance across all components.
3. Bifurcation & Stream Selection (Class VIII)
Objective:
To prepare students for their future academic pathways, ensuring they are equipped with appropriate curricula.
Process:
- Assessment Basis: March assessments, Assessment Task results, projects, and formative work.
- Streams:
- VIII C: Continues with Class VIII curriculum.
- VIII Pre-Matric: Transition to Matriculation syllabus.
Post-Assessment Support:
- Use March assessment results to identify students needing additional support or intervention.
- Develop Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students requiring targeted assistance.
- Support students in their transition to the respective streams, including preparatory work for the final exams.
Special Cases:
- Students with less than 60% may be considered for stream reallocation on a case-by-case basis with parental consent.
- Reassessment opportunities are provided in the End of Year exams for such students.
4. Assessment & Reporting for Classes 1–5
Objective:
To ensure age-appropriate, formative, and summative evaluations that promote holistic development.
Approach:
- Regular classroom assessments, project work, and quizzes.
- Biannual reporting based on continuous assessments and exams.
- Emphasis on developmental feedback rather than solely on grades.
5. Grading & Mark Distribution
Class I – VIII:
- Continuous assessments, projects, and quizzes contribute to overall grades with specified weightages.
- Summative exams contribute significantly to final reports, with marks consolidated in Gradebook.
- Formula for grade 1-4. Term1+Term2 (Formative assessment +formal assessment task +project work/oral assessment/coursework/Mental Math) +(Formative assessment +formal assessment task +project work/oral assessment/coursework/Mental Math)
(20%+20%+10%)+(20%+20%+10%)=100.
Formula for grade 5 & grade 6. Term1+Term2
- (Formative assessment +formal assessment task +project work/oral assessment/coursework/Mental Math) +(Formative assessment +formal assessment task +project work/oral assessment/coursework/Mental Math+Examination)
(20%+20%+10%)+(20%+20%+10%+100%)=200.
Formula for grade 7 & grade IX. Term1+Term2
- (Formative assessment +formal assessment task +project work/oral assessment/coursework/Mental Math) +(Formative assessment +formal assessment task +project work/oral assessment/coursework/Mental Math+Examination)
(20%+20%+10%+100%)+(20%+20%+10%+100%)=300.
Matriculation & Cambridge:
- Strict adherence to BISE and CAIE standards, respectively.
- Marks are allocated based on assessments, with designated weightages for coursework, mid-term, and final exams.
6. Special Educational Programs & Considerations
- Matriculation:
- Focus on syllabus coverage, moderate assessment frequency, and regional BISE examination standards.
- Emphasis on revision and preparation for external assessments.
- O & A Levels:
- Portfolio of evidence maintained through continuous assessments.
- Mock exams and practice assessments prepare students for final external examinations.
7. Roles & Responsibilities
- Teachers:
- Conduct assessments as per schedule, provide feedback, and maintain accurate records.
- School Administrators:
- Oversee assessment implementation, ensure compliance with policies, and facilitate timely reporting.
- Parents & Students:
- Engage with assessment schedules, review reports, and support learning and development.
8. Review & Evaluation of Assessment Policy
